A Sunday search in Toronto’s east end led to the discovery of a loaded handgun and the arrest of two individuals. Investigators executed a warrant at a location near Kingston Road and Galloway Road, uncovering a Glock 26 9mm firearm.
Darnell Vassal, 22, now faces seven firearm-related charges stemming from the investigation. Iyonna Jackson-Smith, 21, has been charged with six similar offenses, both individuals now facing serious legal consequences.
Meanwhile, a separate investigation unfolded after a vehicle was stolen from a residential parking garage near Dundas Street West and Thomas Riley Road on Saturday evening. The victim’s quick thinking and vehicle tracking technology proved crucial in the case.
The stolen car was located the following afternoon in the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue. As police moved to intercept the vehicle, a collision occurred, sending it into a snowbank and triggering a frantic escape on foot.
A short pursuit ensued, ultimately leading to the apprehension of one suspect. Investigators quickly discovered a second individual was already in custody, facing charges in an unrelated theft, and was also implicated in the auto theft.
Christopher Cabus, 51, is now charged with multiple breaches of probation, alongside possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000, failing to stop for police, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. Jonnathan Rayos, 34, faces six counts of probation violation, plus charges related to the theft itself, including fraudulently obtaining food and lodging.
