PHILLY SKY TAKEOVER: 20,000 DESCEND FOR BALLOON MAYHEM!

PHILLY SKY TAKEOVER: 20,000 DESCEND FOR BALLOON MAYHEM!

A breathtaking spectacle is set to paint the skies of Tarlac this Valentine’s weekend – the 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. Organizers anticipate a surge of approximately 20,000 visitors, promising a significant boost to the province’s local economy.

This year’s fiesta, relocating to New Clark City, will feature a dazzling display of 22 uniquely shaped hot air balloons. Skilled pilots hailing from across the globe – the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and beyond – will orchestrate a vibrant aerial ballet.

For over two decades, from 1994 to 2018, the fiesta captivated audiences in Clark, Pampanga, regularly drawing crowds of up to 10,000 people each day. The move to New Clark City presents a new challenge, but organizers are confident accessibility improvements will maintain the event’s popularity.

Addressing previous concerns about transportation, the BCDA will provide complimentary shuttle services connecting key locations like SM City Clark, the airport, and local municipal halls. These shuttles will operate from early morning until late evening, ensuring convenient access for all attendees.

Tickets will be readily available for purchase on-site, catering to those who prefer a more traditional approach. This accessibility aims to remove barriers and welcome as many spectators as possible to witness the stunning display.

The economic impact extends far beyond ticket sales. The fiesta is expected to generate a substantial number of jobs, particularly for local restaurants and food vendors eager to showcase the culinary delights of Tarlac. Nearby hotels in Capas are also poised to benefit from the influx of visitors.

Motorists are advised to anticipate heavier traffic during the three-day event, as the skies above New Clark City transform into a canvas of color and wonder. The event is scheduled to run from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day.

Beyond the immediate festivities, the BCDA envisions New Clark City as the future sports capital of the Philippines. The internationally accredited stadium is already a testament to this ambition, with plans for a 20-hectare expansion dedicated to tennis and multi-sports development in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission.

This commitment to sports tourism represents a long-term investment, mirroring the decades-long development of Bonifacio Global City. The BCDA anticipates a full realization of New Clark City’s potential within a generation.

A Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Tourism is slated for signing in March, solidifying a collaborative effort to further enhance sports development initiatives and position the Philippines as a premier sports tourism destination.
