A chilling scene unfolded in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, last week, as a 44-year-old father was taken into custody following a horrific attack on his own infant son. The unimaginable act left a community reeling and a tiny life hanging in the balance.
According to court documents, Michael Phillips allegedly stabbed his three-month-old child in the abdomen. The mother, Dominique Cialini, recounted a terrifying ordeal, describing Phillips’ disturbing fixation on the idea of sacrificing the baby.
Cialini stated that Phillips stared blankly, muttering about a necessary sacrifice, before suddenly attacking the infant. She bravely intervened, attempting to shield her son from repeated stabs, managing to land only one wound on the baby before fleeing the house with her three-month-old and her nine-year-old son.
The desperate mother instructed her older child to call for help while Phillips pursued them, violently ripping the baby from her arms. She feared the worst, believing he intended to end the baby’s life, before ultimately throwing the infant into the freezing snow.
In a harrowing account, Cialini described collapsing on top of her son in the snow, witnessing the devastating extent of his injuries. She feared she had lost him, seeing internal organs exposed from the deep wound.
The infant was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, suffering from at least one deep abdominal stab wound, and his mother sustained lacerations to her hands during the struggle. The baby was initially listed in critical but stable condition.
Authorities report that Phillips claimed the attack was “part of God’s plan,” repeatedly stating, “I did it God, I did it.” Investigators also learned that Phillips had a history of drug abuse and the mother believed he was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the attack.
As of Monday, the child’s condition remained unclear, leaving a family and a community desperately hoping for a miracle. The investigation continues, piecing together the events that led to this unspeakable tragedy.
