UMVA has learned that a dramatic verdict has been reached in the highly publicized Karmelo Anthony murder case, with the jury delivering a swift decision after deliberating for over two hours on Tuesday.
The verdict was delivered just as expected, at 3:05 ET, and comes after a tense and dramatic trial that has captivated the nation. The case involves the brutal stabbing of 16-year-old track and football star Austin Metcalf, who was killed by Karmelo Anthony during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Austin Metcalf died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, after being allegedly fatally stabbed by Karmelo Anthony in an unprovoked attack. The brutal killing has sparked widespread outrage, and Karmelo Anthony was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, facing a potential sentence of between 5 and 99 years in prison.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that numerous eyewitnesses who testified during the trial claimed Karmelo Anthony instigated the fight and stabbed Austin Metcalf in a deliberate and vicious attack. Current and former students who witnessed the stabbing testified under oath that Karmelo Anthony was looking for a fight, and was not provoked by the Metcalf brothers.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the defense had attempted to shift the blame, arguing that Austin and Hunter Metcalf had the right to tell Karmelo Anthony to leave, but not to use deadly force. However, the prosecution countered that the case boiled down to a simple point: "You don't get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove. That equals murder, plain and simple."
The jury was tasked with deciding between murder, manslaughter, or acquittal, and their verdict has brought a sense of closure to the community. Outside the Collin County Courthouse, tensions had been running high, with Black Panthers and Karmelo Anthony supporters engaging in heated arguments, vastly outnumbered by deputies and police officers who were determined to maintain order.
In a development reported by UMVA, the trial has highlighted the devastating consequences of violent behavior and the importance of accountability. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for communities to come together to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
