TORY TRAITOR: MP SHOCKS NATION With Dramatic Party Switch!

TORY TRAITOR: MP SHOCKS NATION With Dramatic Party Switch!

A political tremor shook Ottawa Wednesday morning as another Conservative Member of Parliament announced a surprising shift in allegiance. Matt Jeneroux, representing Edmonton-Riverbend, is now a member of the Liberal caucus, a move revealed by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The announcement, delivered via social media, framed Jeneroux’s decision as a contribution to building a “stronger, more resilient, and more independent country.” Carney emphasized the need for ambition and collaboration, expressing gratitude to Jeneroux and his family for their continued service.

Jeneroux’s new role within the Liberal caucus will be as a special advisor, focusing on economic and security partnerships. He’s being positioned as a key voice in international engagement and parliamentary diplomacy, leveraging his experience on the world stage.

Conservative MP for Edmonton Riverbend Matt Jeneroux rises during Question Period, Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 in Ottawa.

This defection arrives just months after Jeneroux initially announced his intention to resign his seat in the House of Commons. At the time, he voiced encouragement for Canadians to support a Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre, a sentiment now dramatically altered.

The shift follows a similar move by Acadie-Annapolis MP Chris d’Entremont in November, who also crossed the floor to join the Liberals. Rumors had swirled around d’Entremont’s potential move prior to the official announcement, foreshadowing a growing instability within the Conservative ranks.

With Jeneroux’s arrival, Alberta’s representation in the Liberal caucus grows to three, alongside MPs from Calgary Confederation and Edmonton Centre. This shift subtly alters the political landscape of the province, adding to the Liberal presence in a traditionally Conservative stronghold.

This marks the third Conservative MP to join the Liberal ranks in just three months, signaling a notable trend of political realignment. Michael Ma, representing Markham-Unionville, made the same transition in December, further eroding the Conservative caucus.

Jeneroux’s political journey began in Alberta provincial politics, winning a seat as a Progressive Conservative MLA in 2012. He experienced a setback in the 2013 election, losing his seat amidst the province’s unexpected surge towards the NDP.

Undeterred, Jeneroux successfully transitioned to federal politics later that year, securing the Edmonton Riverbend seat for the Conservative Party of Canada. He held that position through three subsequent federal elections, establishing himself as a consistent voice for his constituents.

The reasons behind Jeneroux’s ultimate decision remain deeply personal, but his move undeniably reshapes the dynamics of Parliament Hill and raises questions about the future direction of both the Conservative and Liberal parties.
