DEPUTY SHOT: Deported Criminal's Deadly Rampage Ends in Chaos!

The quiet of a South Carolina night shattered on Johns Island just after 9 p.m. on February 10th, with a call reporting gunfire. Charleston County deputies responded, but the suspect vanished into the darkness, leaving only unanswered questions and a growing sense of unease.

Hours later, at approximately 3 a.m., the same individual contacted authorities again. The suspect, now identified as Floriberto Perez-Nieto, had returned to the area. A tense pursuit began as deputies located his vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.

Perez-Nieto refused to surrender, escalating the situation with a desperate act of violence. He fired upon the deputies, striking one officer in the chest. Fortunately, the deputy was protected by body armor, a crucial layer that stood between life and death.

Other deputies swiftly returned fire, ending the immediate threat. Perez-Nieto was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The wounded deputy, whose identity has not yet been released, survived thanks to the protective vest.

Federal authorities have since revealed a troubling history surrounding Perez-Nieto. He was a criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico with a prior deportation on February 20, 2019. His return to the United States constituted a felony – illegal re-entry after being previously removed.

The circumstances surrounding how Perez-Nieto obtained the firearm remain under investigation. The incident has triggered multiple investigations, including an internal review by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and a lead investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave as part of standard protocol. The focus now is on a thorough examination of the events, seeking to understand the full scope of what transpired on that fateful night.

The incident underscores the complex realities faced by law enforcement and the potential consequences of individuals with prior criminal records re-entering the country. It serves as a stark reminder of the dangers officers confront in their duty to protect and serve.
