WINDOWS 11 SECRETS REVEALED: Is Your Internet a SCAM?

WINDOWS 11 SECRETS REVEALED: Is Your Internet a SCAM?

Soon, a convenient tool will arrive directly on your Windows PC: a built-in internet speed test. Microsoft is preparing to release this subtle but powerful addition as part of an upcoming feature update, expected within the next few weeks.

The update isn’t about sweeping changes, but rather a collection of refinements. Alongside new emoji and improvements to the system recovery process, this speed test offers a practical benefit for everyday users.

While numerous speed tests already exist – from services like Ookla to those offered by your internet provider – Microsoft’s version is uniquely accessible. It’s currently available through Edge and Bing, appearing directly within your browser, and now it’s coming to your system tray.

This test reveals your current download and upload speeds, along with your ping – crucial data for evaluating your internet service. Comparing these results to your provider’s plan can help determine if you’re receiving the speeds you’re paying for, or if adjustments to your router are needed.

Imagine tracking your internet performance throughout the day. A quick test at 11 AM could reveal a stark contrast to speeds measured when everyone in the neighborhood is online at 5 PM, offering valuable insight into network congestion.

Finding the new test isn’t immediately obvious. Access it by clicking the network icon in your system tray, or through the Wi-Fi or Cellular Quick Settings. This will open your default web browser and display the speed test interface.

Though seemingly simple – essentially a link to a web page – this integration is a welcome convenience. Microsoft has been quietly developing this feature for some time, with early versions appearing in preview builds late last year.

It’s important to note that the test won’t run automatically. You’ll need to manually initiate it by clicking the network icon. This raises a question: should Windows periodically run the test and report the results alongside your system specifications?

As this feature is being rolled out gradually through the Release Preview program, availability will vary. Expect to see it arrive within the next few weeks, but be patient – it may take some time to reach all users. Regularly checking the network icon in your taskbar is the best way to confirm its installation.
