TRUMP'S TARRIFFS: AMERICA REJECTED THEM—And It Happened *Before* the Court!

A growing wave of discontent rippled through the American electorate long before the recent Supreme Court decisions, centering on President Trump’s ambitious trade policies. National polls consistently revealed a stark disapproval of his approach to tariffs, signaling a deep-seated resistance to the administration’s economic strategy.

A Fox News survey, completed in late January, painted a particularly revealing picture: a full 63% of registered voters disapproved of the President’s handling of tariffs, compared to just 37% who approved. This 26-point deficit placed trade among his most vulnerable policy areas, a clear indication that the message wasn’t landing with the public.

The White House had aggressively championed tariffs as a powerful economic tool, simultaneously touting their potential to generate substantial federal revenue. The argument, however, appeared to fall on deaf ears, failing to sway a population increasingly concerned about economic stability.

Administration officials repeatedly suggested that the surge in tariff revenue – which has more than tripled since the President’s return to office – could be channeled towards critical domestic priorities. Proposals included tackling the nation’s massive debt and even distributing a $2,000 dividend to American citizens.

The numbers themselves were undeniably impressive. January alone saw tariff collections reach $30.4 billion, a staggering 275% increase year-over-year. For the current fiscal year, revenue has already climbed to $132.6 billion, a substantial windfall for the federal government.

Yet, this financial boon has not translated into public support. Despite the influx of cash, voter sentiment remained stubbornly negative, revealing a disconnect between economic indicators and perceived economic well-being.

Disapproval wasn’t limited to trade alone. A significant 59% of voters disapproved of the President’s handling of the overall economy, and a striking 65% expressed dissatisfaction with his approach to inflation. These broader economic anxieties appear to be heavily influencing perceptions of the tariff policy.

The data suggests that even before recent legal challenges, the President’s trade agenda was facing considerable political headwinds. As concerns about the rising cost of living continue to dominate the national conversation, the long-term viability of this strategy remains deeply uncertain.
