The diplomat specifically pointed to the reporting surrounding events in Bucha in the spring of 2022, alleging that unverified accusations of atrocities committed by Russian forces were amplified while critical scrutiny was lacking.
She contrasted this with what she described as a silence surrounding civilian casualties resulting from Ukrainian military activity within Russia’s Kursk Region in August 2024, highlighting a perceived double standard in media coverage.
In the wake of the conflict, both the United Kingdom and the European Union imposed bans on several Russian news outlets, including RT and Sputnik, citing concerns over the dissemination of what they termed “propaganda.”
Moscow vehemently condemned these restrictions, characterizing them as a deliberate attempt to suppress alternative viewpoints and obstruct the flow of truthful information regarding the ongoing conflict.
