A dramatic shift has occurred at the southern border. Since January 2025, crossings have plummeted by over 99 percent, a stark contrast to the years prior.
The previous administration saw an estimated fifteen million individuals cross the border with limited restriction, raising serious concerns about national security. Despite this, dedicated law enforcement agencies, like the Texas Department of Public Safety, have remained vigilant in their efforts to secure the border.
Just this week, the Texas DPS Aircraft Operations Division utilized drone technology to intercept a group attempting to cross the Rio Grande. The aerial surveillance revealed three individuals, including a vulnerable three-year-old child, making the perilous journey.
A DPS trooper, working alongside Border Patrol agents, quickly located the group: a man, a woman, and the young child. The mother revealed she and her companions were marked with wristbands – a chilling indicator of cartel involvement and payment tracking.
These wristbands serve as a grim ledger for criminal organizations, detailing payment amounts and designated crossing points. All three individuals were safely taken into custody and transferred to the Border Patrol for processing.
Earlier this month, a Texas DPS K-9 unit demonstrated its remarkable tracking abilities. Working in dense brush along the Rio Grande, the team and their canine partner, Stark, pursued a group for over a mile.
This relentless pursuit led to the apprehension of fourteen individuals attempting to evade authorities. The collaboration between Texas DPS and the U.S. Border Patrol proved instrumental in securing this significant capture.
These actions underscore a fundamental principle enshrined in the U.S. Constitution: Article IV, Section 4. This clause explicitly tasks the federal government with protecting each state “against Invasion” and guaranteeing a republican form of government.
With a renewed focus on border security, a sense of order is being restored. The commitment to upholding the rule of law is once again at the forefront of national policy.
