French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot publicly expressed his displeasure with U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner’s decision to ignore a summons from the French Foreign Ministry, stating it would “naturally affect his ability to carry out his mission” within the country.
The dispute began following posts from official U.S. government social media accounts concerning the death of Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old activist who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent clash in Lyon.
The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism issued a statement suggesting Deranque was killed by left-wing militants, raising concerns about the rise of “violent radical leftism” and its potential threat to public safety. This statement was then amplified by the U.S. Embassy in France.
