MEXICO SPRING BREAK: DO NOT GO – Senator Issues DIRE Warning!

A stark warning is echoing for spring breakers with Mexico in their sights. Senator Markwayne Mullin urgently advises canceling trips south of the border, citing a surge in violence following a significant blow to one of Mexico’s most powerful cartels.

The unrest erupted after Mexican forces neutralized Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). The senator recounted a recent conversation with his own chiropractor, still planning a Cancun getaway, expressing disbelief at the risk.

Mullin emphasized the volatile situation, stating the United States is closely monitoring events. This isn’t simply a regional issue; the CJNG has grown into a global trafficking organization, responsible for a substantial flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

El Mencho’s rise to power followed the imprisonment of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, filling a dangerous void in the Mexican drug landscape. A $15 million U.S. bounty was placed on his head, highlighting the severity of his threat.

The operation targeting El Mencho, conducted in Tapalpa, Jalisco, was a collaborative effort with U.S. intelligence playing a crucial role. However, the aftermath has been chaotic, with cartel members retaliating by burning vehicles and blocking roadways across multiple states.

Mexican authorities claim to have stabilized the security situation, reopening transit corridors and restoring public services. Puerto Vallarta International Airport has resumed domestic flights, and international carriers are cautiously returning.

Despite these assurances, the U.S. State Department’s travel advisory for Mexico remains in effect. A recent shelter-in-place order for American citizens was lifted, but the underlying danger persists.

The CJNG is a formidable force, boasting an estimated 19,000 members and operating in over two-thirds of Mexico’s states. The organization was even designated a foreign terrorist organization by the previous U.S. administration.

Senator Mullin sees a potential opportunity in the wake of El Mencho’s death. He believes the fracturing of the cartel presents a chance for a coordinated takedown, though acknowledging the impossibility of completely eradicating drug trafficking.

He expressed optimism about regaining control of the situation, suggesting a renewed focus on dismantling these criminal networks. The senator believes a concerted effort between the U.S. and Mexico could significantly disrupt the flow of illicit drugs.
