The Lone Star State’s famous motto, “Don’t Mess with Texas,” wasn’t just a slogan recently – it was a demonstration of raw, unexpected courage inside a local burger restaurant.
A seemingly ordinary evening at a Whataburger in Paris, Texas, exploded into a dramatic confrontation when a man in black clothing suddenly launched an attack on a restaurant employee. A customer, Billy Jones, witnessed the initial assault unfold while enjoying his meal.
Without hesitation, the fast-food worker became a defender, grabbing a wire fry basket and delivering a decisive blow to the attacker’s head, sending him crashing to the floor. The scene quickly escalated as the manager joined the defense.
The manager, fueled by adrenaline and a commitment to protecting their team, seized a trash can and repeatedly struck the suspect, adding to the chaos captured on a rapidly circulating video. Employees urgently called for the panic button to be activated, their voices echoing in the tense atmosphere.
The assailant, overwhelmed by the unexpected resistance, ultimately fled the building as the staff simultaneously contacted 911. Police swiftly responded and located the suspect, identified as Anthony William Newhuis, 41, of Spring, Texas, bleeding in the back parking lot.
Newhuis was promptly arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication. The initial charges were only the beginning of his troubles, however.
While detained, Newhuis intentionally flooded his jail cell, resulting in an additional charge of criminal mischief, amounting to less than $750 in damages. The incident underscored the escalating nature of his disruptive behavior.
The entire ordeal, captured on video, quickly went viral, transforming a routine fast-food stop into a testament to quick thinking and unwavering defense in the face of danger.
