A clandestine world of illicit trade crumbled Wednesday night in Cotabato City, as a coordinated operation dismantled a drug den in Barangay Bagua 3. Agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and local police moved swiftly, culminating in the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of dangerous narcotics.
The sting operation unfolded directly within the confines of the drug den, catching the suspects red-handed during a transaction. Authorities reported an immediate apprehension, effectively shutting down the illegal activity at its source. The suspects are currently held at the PDEA-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) office.
According to Edgar T. Jubay, director of PDEA-BARMM, the success of the operation hinged on a powerful collaboration. Cotabato City’s police director, Colonel Jibin M. Bongcayao, the office of Mayor Bruce C. Matabalao, local barangay officials, and respected Moro community leaders all contributed vital intelligence and support.
The raid yielded a significant seizure: 12 grams of crystal meth, valued at approximately P81,600. This evidence will be crucial in building a case against the arrested individuals, prosecuting them under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The operation wasn’t without a close call. One individual, reportedly an accomplice to the detained suspects, managed to evade capture, sensing the imminent arrival of law enforcement. A manhunt is underway to locate and apprehend this fleeing suspect.
In the aftermath, the former drug den now stands under vigilant guard. Barangay officials and dedicated volunteer community watchmen have secured the location, preventing any resurgence of illegal activity and signaling a renewed commitment to community safety.
