APPLE JUST SHATTERED THE LAPTOP MARKET.

APPLE JUST SHATTERED THE LAPTOP MARKET.

Apple has unveiled the MacBook Neo, a strikingly affordable new laptop poised to redefine entry-level computing. Priced at $599, it dramatically undercuts the existing MacBook Air, presenting a compelling option for budget-conscious consumers.

This price point is achieved through strategic component choices. The Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip – previously found in the iPhone 16 Pro – offering a robust 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU. It’s a testament to Apple’s chip design that this mobile powerhouse now finds a home in a laptop.

The base model features 8GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD, providing ample storage for everyday tasks. A $699 configuration doubles the storage to 512GB, catering to users with more demanding needs.

Visually, the MacBook Neo boasts a vibrant 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a sharp 2408-by-1506 resolution and 500 nits of brightness. The absence of a notch provides a clean, classic aesthetic, while a 1080p FaceTime HD camera resides within the top bezel.

A nostalgic touch is found in the keyboard, featuring pale keys reminiscent of Apple’s early 2000s iBook design. While visually distinct, the keys are carefully color-matched to the chassis. Touch ID is available on the upgraded $699 model.

Connectivity includes one USB-C 3 port and one USB-C 2 port, alongside a 3.5mm audio jack. The Neo supports a single external display at up to 4K resolution, maintaining seamless multitasking capabilities.

Apple estimates impressive battery life, promising up to 16 hours of video streaming or 11 hours of wireless web browsing from the 36.5‑watt‑hour battery. A 20W USB-C power adapter and cable are included in the box.

The MacBook Neo is remarkably portable, measuring just 0.50 inches thick and weighing a mere 2.7 pounds. It’s available in a range of stylish colors: blush, citrus, indigo, and silver.

Pre-orders are open now, with shipments and in-store availability beginning on March 11th. This new offering signals Apple’s commitment to broadening access to its ecosystem.
