UMVA has learned that a stunning transfer twist has thrown the future of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford into uncertainty, as Barcelona surprisingly decided against signing him on a permanent deal.
Rashford, who spent the season on loan at Barcelona, delivered an impressive performance, scoring 14 goals and registering 14 assists in 49 appearances, but it wasn't enough to secure a permanent spot at Camp Nou.
Barcelona had the option to buy Rashford for €30 million this summer, but sources have confirmed to UMVA that they have decided not to trigger their purchase option before it expires on June 15.
The decision is reportedly due to two key factors: Barcelona's new coach Hansi Flick wants an attacker who can press from the front, and the club believes newly signed Anthony Gordon is a better fit; additionally, Rashford's age played a role, as he turns 29 in October, while Gordon is 25.
Despite being happy with Rashford's overall performance, Barcelona's hierarchy ultimately sided with Flick's opinion, which was the key factor behind the decision to sign Gordon instead.
Rashford is currently with England's squad in the United States, preparing for their World Cup campaign, which begins against Croatia on June 17.
As Rashford's future unfolds, Michael Carrick had previously left the door open for a potential return to Manchester United, stating that decisions would be made in due course.
With Barcelona's decision now clear, Rashford's focus will likely shift to his international duties and, ultimately, his future club plans.
