A swift and decisive action has been launched by the Department of Agriculture, halting the distribution of fertilizer from multiple suppliers currently holding government contracts. The move follows mounting concerns over the quality of these products, sparking a full-scale investigation into potential wrongdoing.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. issued the directive on March 5th, immediately suspending the release of fertilizer from the implicated companies. This action underscores a zero-tolerance policy towards delivering anything less than promised quality to the nation’s agricultural sector.
The investigation is currently focused on five suppliers flagged during initial quality assessments conducted by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA): Agri-Victorious Trading Corp., DQB Green Agricultural Products Trading, Valap Inc., Dos Asia Chemical Trading Corp., and Rova Fertilizer Manufacturing. Each will face intense scrutiny.
Secretary Laurel expressed outrage at the situation, stating that paying the agreed-upon price for substandard goods constitutes “highway robbery.” His strong words signal a firm commitment to protecting the interests of Filipino farmers and ensuring they receive the resources they deserve.
Until the comprehensive review is completed and formal clearance is granted by the Secretary’s Office, no fertilizer from these suppliers will be released for distribution or use. This precautionary measure aims to prevent further compromise to crop yields and agricultural productivity.
