OKLAHOMA SENATE SHOCKER: Trump Steals Mullin – Who Will Stitt Choose?!

OKLAHOMA SENATE SHOCKER: Trump Steals Mullin – Who Will Stitt Choose?!

A seismic shift is underway in the nation’s security apparatus. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to appoint Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin as the next Secretary of Homeland Security, effective March 31st. This decision follows a restructuring within the administration and signals a determined effort to reshape national security policy.

The announcement, delivered via social media, positions Mullin – a former undefeated MMA fighter – at the helm of an agency facing immense challenges. Current Secretary Kristi Noem will transition to a new role as Special Envoy for “The Shield of the Americas,” a security initiative planned for unveiling in Florida this weekend.

Should Mullin’s appointment be confirmed by the Senate, a vacancy will emerge in Oklahoma’s representation. Governor Kevin Stitt will then be tasked with appointing a temporary replacement to serve until a special election can be held, allowing voters to choose their permanent senator.

Oklahoma law dictates a 30-day window for the Governor to make this crucial appointment. A unique stipulation accompanies the role: the appointed individual must pledge not to run for the Senate seat in the upcoming election, leveling the playing field for those who intend to compete for the position long-term.

Speculation regarding Governor Stitt’s choice is already intense. A diverse range of potential candidates have emerged, each bringing a distinct set of experiences and political affiliations to the table.

Among those considered are U.S. Representative Kevin Hern, a prominent voice within the Republican Study Committee, and Dustin Hilliary, a senior advisor to the Governor with a background in communications and business. Donelle Harder, the Governor’s current chief of staff, is also a strong contender.

Further adding to the mix are figures from the business world, such as Harold Hamm, founder of Continental Resources, who has reportedly expressed direct interest in the appointment. Former Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor, previously appointed by Stitt, is also in the running.

State-level politicians are also vying for consideration. Nathan Dahm, former chair of the Oklahoma Republican Party, David Ostrowe, a key figure in the Governor’s office, and Alex Gray, a former National Security Council official, have all been mentioned as possibilities.

Rounding out the potential candidates are Bond Payne, a former chief of staff to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell, and T.W. Shannon, a former Oklahoma House Speaker with deep roots in the Chickasaw Nation. Representative Stephanie Bice, known for her conservative stance in Washington, is also being discussed.

While the interim appointment is temporary, several ambitious Republicans are already preparing for a full-fledged Senate campaign in the November 2026 general election. Representatives Hern and Bice have both signaled their intent to compete for the seat permanently.

Beyond these prominent names, other individuals have already filed the necessary paperwork to enter the race, including Nick Hankins, Ron Meinhardt, Tammy Swearengin, and Wayne Washington, setting the stage for a potentially crowded and competitive election cycle.
