TRACKERS REVOLUTIONIZED: Pinpoint Accuracy UNLOCKED!

The quest for pinpoint accuracy in a world increasingly reliant on location is reaching a critical juncture. As the Internet of Things expands, demanding reliable positioning in ever-smaller devices and challenging environments, a new generation of GNSS technology is emerging to meet the need.

For too long, “good enough” GPS has been the standard. But dense cityscapes, underground tunnels, and even simple interference are proving to be formidable obstacles. Tracking, telematics, and mobile industrial devices require far more than basic satellite signals to function predictably and reliably.

Responding to this challenge, two new dual-band GNSS modules have been developed, offering a significant leap forward in positioning capabilities. These modules represent a strategic expansion of a roadmap focused on scalability, allowing product families to adapt to diverse and demanding applications.

Telit Cinterion adds dual-band L1+L5 GNSS modules targeting compact trackers and high-precision IoT designs

The first, the SE873K5-D, prioritizes compactness. It’s designed for seamless integration into existing designs, maintaining the same footprint and pin compatibility as its single-frequency predecessor. This allows manufacturers to upgrade to dual-band accuracy without costly and time-consuming hardware revisions.

This module doesn’t just shrink in size; it expands in capability. By utilizing both L1 and L5 bands, it dramatically improves accuracy and resilience against signal interference and reflections – crucial for devices like wearables and fleet management systems operating in complex environments. Submeter accuracy is achievable through DGNSS support with RTCM corrections, and designers can optimize for either minimal size or ultra-low power consumption.

For applications demanding the highest levels of precision, the SE869eK5-DRK takes positioning to the next level. Building upon existing high-end GNSS technology, this module integrates Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning alongside untethered dead reckoning (UDR). This combination ensures continuous, accurate positioning even when satellite signals are unavailable, such as within tunnels or urban canyons.

An integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU) is the key to the UDR functionality, allowing the module to maintain position fixes even in the absence of a strong GNSS signal. While RTK delivers centimeter-level precision, the module also supports DGNSS for submeter accuracy when ultimate precision isn’t required.

The true power of this development lies in its flexibility. These modules aren’t isolated components; they’re stepping stones. Manufacturers can now build a single device platform capable of scaling across multiple accuracy tiers – from single-frequency to dual-band, and from DGNSS to RTK – without a complete hardware overhaul.

This approach streamlines product development and allows for the creation of diverse SKUs tailored to specific customer needs and price points. Furthermore, the integration with cellular connectivity solutions enables seamless delivery of RTCM corrections worldwide, transforming GNSS accuracy into a holistic architectural decision.

The availability of engineering samples is imminent, with design validation testing scheduled soon, and mass production planned for the second quarter of 2026. This marks a significant step towards a future where reliable, high-precision positioning is no longer a luxury, but a fundamental component of the connected world.
