FILIPINOS EVACUATED FROM WARZONE: ESCAPE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

FILIPINOS EVACUATED FROM WARZONE: ESCAPE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

A wave of relief washed over ninety overseas Filipino workers as they touched down on Philippine soil Sunday evening. Their return, facilitated by the Department of Migrant Workers, represents a crucial step in ongoing repatriation efforts triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The Emirates Airline flight, EK 334, carried not only those directly accepting the government’s offer to return home, but also Filipinos previously stranded in Dubai, adding to the urgency of the situation. This latest arrival swells the total number of repatriated Filipinos, including dependents, to over 400 since March 8th.

Repatriation operations began swiftly, less than a week after coordinated airstrikes on Iranian targets ignited fears for the safety of the large Filipino population in the region. The speed of the response underscores the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad.

An estimated 2.41 million Filipinos reside in Middle Eastern countries, with the largest concentrations in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait. Smaller, but still significant, communities exist in Iran and Israel, heightening concerns as the conflict unfolds.

Recognizing the vital need for connection during this anxious time, President Marcos Jr. has directed telecommunications companies to provide free communication services. This initiative aims to bridge the distance between OFWs and their families back home, offering a lifeline of reassurance.

The “Libreng Tawag Program” extends across several nations – Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia – ensuring a broad reach for this essential service. The goal is simple: to alleviate financial burdens while allowing families to confirm each other’s safety and offer mutual support.

Responding to the President’s call, major telecommunication providers are rapidly expanding their assistance. Free call stations are being established in bustling business centers within major malls, offering convenient access for families seeking to connect.

PLDT Inc. is extending free services and setting up dedicated call stations in select stores, while Globe Telecom, Inc. is providing complimentary roaming packages. These packages include minutes for calls, text messages, and data, offering a comprehensive communication solution.

PLDT’s free call services, available through its TinBo marketplace, extend to Filipinos in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Within the Philippines, PLDT Home and Enterprise customers can also make free calls to these regions until March 15th.

Globe’s complimentary package provides seven days of connectivity, including 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 text messages, and 1 gigabyte of data. These combined efforts demonstrate a powerful commitment to supporting Filipinos during this challenging period.

The focus remains on vigilance and staying informed. Filipinos in affected regions are encouraged to heed local advisories and maintain contact with Philippine embassies and consulates, ensuring they have access to the latest information and assistance.
