A second chilling threat against Ontario Premier Doug Ford in a single week has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Hamilton. The Ontario Provincial Police launched an investigation on February 22nd, swiftly responding to the disturbing communication directed at the Premier.
Lucas Bauer now faces a charge of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death. Authorities acted decisively, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards such criminal acts.
“Threats are criminal in nature and will not be tolerated,” stated OPP Protective Services Section Inspector Anton Jelich. “The OPP takes every incident seriously and is committed to investigating these matters, regardless of who is impacted.”
Bauer has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on April 13th. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather further information.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar case just nine days prior. On February 13th, a threat was made against Premier Ford, resulting in the arrest of a 20-year-old resident of Alliston.
Ramy Jamil Hanna was charged with uttering threats to cause harm and is due in court in Bradford on April 9th. These back-to-back incidents have heightened security concerns surrounding the Premier and other key provincial figures.
The OPP’s Protective Services Section, a specialized unit within the Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau, is responsible for the security of the Lieutenant Governor, the Premier, and members of the Executive Council. Their work focuses on intelligence-led, risk-informed protection of these vital government leaders.
