A quiet Friday evening in Toronto shattered as a tragic collision unfolded at the intersection of Steeles Avenue West and Gerry Fitzgerald Drive, leaving a 62-year-old man dead and authorities urgently searching for a suspect.
The incident began shortly before 6:45 p.m. when a 19-year-old woman driving a Volkswagen Tiguan attempted a left turn. Simultaneously, an Acura MDX, traveling westbound, allegedly sped through a red light, initiating a devastating impact within the intersection.
The force of the collision sent the Acura careening out of control, directly into a utility pole. The pole, unable to withstand the impact, crashed down upon a pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Instead of stopping to help, the driver of the Acura abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, disappearing into the surrounding area. Police are now appealing to the public for assistance in locating him.
Walter Omar Montes De Oca Munoz, 32, is currently wanted on two serious charges: failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death and dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death. He is described as approximately 5’7” with a muscular build and dark brown hair.
Investigators are meticulously piecing together the events of that evening, relying on witness accounts and forensic evidence to build a complete picture of the tragedy. Traffic Services are leading the ongoing investigation, determined to bring the responsible party to justice.
