A quiet community is reeling after the arrest of a 62-year-old teacher and athletic director at Skykomish K-12 School. He was taken into custody Friday, suspected of a year-long pattern of sexual abuse involving a student.
The investigation began after a 14-year-old girl’s mother discovered disturbing images and videos on her daughter’s phone. This discovery triggered a swift response from law enforcement, uncovering a deeply troubling alleged betrayal of trust.
Investigators allege the abuse began in eighth grade, following the student’s transfer to Skykomish after a personal tragedy. A shared passion for soccer initially formed a bond with the teacher, which investigators say was then exploited.
The alleged abuse escalated over a year and a half, occurring in multiple locations throughout the school grounds. These included secluded areas like closets, stairwells, and even the gymnasium during school hours, according to a probable cause statement.
Communication between the teacher and student reportedly became increasingly personal, utilizing the teacher’s school email account. Investigators claim these messages contained coded references to sexual activity, painting a picture of calculated manipulation.
Authorities allege the teacher confessed to repeated sexual contact with the student within the school and admitted to providing gifts, including inappropriate items. This admission adds a chilling layer to the accusations.
Concerns about the relationship were reportedly raised by multiple staff members and students. Despite these warnings, the principal’s response allegedly involved assigning another student – described as autistic – to be present when the two were together, rather than a supervising adult.
