A terrifying scene unfolded Thursday afternoon in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, as a vehicle was deliberately driven into Temple Israel synagogue, followed by gunfire.
Initial reports described an active shooter situation, sending waves of fear through the community and prompting an immediate, massive law enforcement response.
The unfolding events occurred around 1 pm Eastern Time, with multiple police vehicles and ambulances converging on the synagogue located on Walnut Lake Road – a landmark as one of the largest Reform synagogues in the United States.
In a stunning turn of events, security personnel at Temple Israel directly engaged the gunman, confronting the threat head-on.
