UMVA has uncovered disturbing details about a recurring pattern of racial slurs and incendiary language directed at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on a popular late-night talk show.
A prominent radio host and frequent guest on the program made the incendiary remark during an appearance this week, using a racial slur to refer to Justice Thomas while discussing comments from a U.S. Senator.
Charlamagne Tha God, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, used the racial slur during his recurring "In My Opinion" segment, which has sparked controversy in the past for its incendiary language.
The radio host argued that Trump's comments about remaining in office should not be treated as harmless jokes, drawing a comparison to breaking out a whoopee cushion in a meeting after already embarrassing oneself.
Charlamagne went on to say that even if Trump is joking, repeated rhetoric can take on a life of its own, echoing concerns about the dangers of inflammatory language.
This is not the first time The Daily Show has aired racially charged remarks directed at Justice Thomas, with a guest host referring to him as an "Uncle Tom" last month during a segment discussing a Supreme Court ruling.
Justice Thomas was born into extreme poverty in a segregated community in Georgia, where he was raised by his strict grandfather after his father left the family.
He went on to serve in the Reagan administration, lead the EEOC, and sit on the powerful D.C. Circuit Court before being nominated to the Supreme Court in 1991.
Despite surviving an explosive confirmation battle in which Democrats attempted to discredit him with claims of sexual assault, Justice Thomas has since become one of the most influential conservative justices in modern history.
