Waze users are in for a treat as the app receives a significant update, with a focus on AI enhancements and customization. The update, which was announced in a blog post, includes five new features that cater to users' diverse needs.
One of the standout features is a motorcycle mode, designed to optimize directions for motorcyclists. This new feature uses AI to account for shortcuts and restrictions that may apply to riders, as well as road conditions that can be hazardous for motorcyclists. The motorcycle mode is currently available in a limited number of countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines, but Waze promises to expand its reach to other countries in the future.
Another new feature is a personalized navigation system that suggests routes based on users' driving history. This means that if you tend to prefer backroads over highways, Waze will suggest routes that align with your preferred driving style. However, you still have the option to choose the fastest route available or turn off this feature if you prefer.
The update also includes a "less chatty" mode, which reduces voice prompts that may interrupt music or podcasts. While the feature may not be the most elegant name, it's certainly effective, as it allows users to receive critical reminders only when necessary.
Waze's "Conversational Reporting" feature has also been enhanced, enabling users to send map updates with their voice. This hands-free feature allows users to report traffic slowdowns and other issues without having to fiddle with the app.
Finally, Waze is testing a Gemini integration, which allows users to search for destinations using natural language. For example, users can search for "coffee shops that are currently open" or "gas stations with the lowest prices in my area." This feature is currently available to beta testers, who can enroll in the Waze beta on iOS or Android to try it out.
