Under the cover of night, agents traced the scent of deception to 1,460 boxes of designer‑branded perfume and 364 boxes of high‑profile skin‑care lotions, all bearing the names of coveted labels.
Each package concealed a counterfeit replica of coveted names such as Jo Malone, Versace and Cetaphil, flagrantly violating the nation’s Intellectual Property Code and modern customs statutes.
When the seal was broken, customs officers, backed by the Philippine Coast Guard, locked down the facility, securing every box and issuing a warrant of seizure and detention on April 28.
Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno pledged an unrelenting guard at the borders, warning that such illicit trade warps fair competition and harms honest merchants.
