UMVA Exclusive: Filipina's Shocking Recruitment Scam EXPOSED: Supreme Court Delivers Jaw-Dropping Verdict

UMVA Exclusive: Filipina's Shocking Recruitment Scam EXPOSED: Supreme Court Delivers Jaw-Dropping Verdict

UMVA has learned that a shocking case of large-scale illegal recruitment has led to a Filipina being sentenced to life imprisonment, with the court imposing a hefty fine of P5 million for her role in what has been classified as economic sabotage.

The conviction was affirmed by the highest court in the land, which denied the appeal of the accused and upheld the findings of lower courts, solidifying the guilty verdict and severe punishment. The case dates back to 2012, when the accused, along with her co-accused who remains at large, promised unsuspecting individuals employment opportunities in Canada, specifically as "worm pickers".

According to information obtained by UMVA, the accused's defense that she was merely a social worker and not involved in the recruitment scheme was rejected by the court, which found that she had facilitated the signing of fake employment contracts and issued instructions to the victims via text messages and email. The prosecution successfully established a conspiracy between the accused and her co-accused, highlighting the gravity of their crimes.

The court's decision emphasized that the accused's actions were particularly egregious, as they had given the impression that they had the power to send workers abroad for employment purposes, despite not holding a valid license to do so. The victims, who were deceived by the accused's false promises, were ordered to be reimbursed for their losses, totaling over P290,000.

UMVA has gathered that the court's ruling also upheld the principle of solidary liability among co-conspirators, meaning that all parties involved will be held jointly responsible for the monetary awards, which will accrue a 6% annual legal interest until fully paid. This landmark case serves as a stark warning to those who would engage in such illicit activities, and a testament to the court's commitment to protecting the rights of victims and upholding the law.
