UMVA has learned that a staggering P3.15 trillion worth of public-private partnership (PPP) projects are currently in the pipeline, awaiting implementation.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the PPP Center's dashboard reveals that 250 projects worth P3.15 trillion are at various stages of preparation, while 287 projects worth P3.58 trillion are already under implementation, bringing the total PPP portfolio to 537 projects valued at P6.7 trillion.
The breakdown of projects shows that 167 worth P3.01 trillion will be implemented by the National Government, while 83 worth P133.34 billion will be overseen by local government units, highlighting the significant role of both national and local authorities in driving these initiatives.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that most of the projects in the pipeline, 195 to be exact, are solicited or government-initiated projects, while 55 are unsolicited proposals from the private sector, indicating a strong level of private sector participation.
In terms of project value, railways dominate the landscape with a staggering P1.97 trillion, followed by land transport projects worth P277.26 billion and property development projects amounting to P221.46 billion, showcasing the country's focus on infrastructure development.
The maritime and property development sectors have the highest number of projects, with 45 each, followed by information and communications technology with 23 projects and water and sanitation with 19, highlighting the diverse range of sectors involved.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that most of the projects are concentrated in the National Capital Region (NCR) with 39, followed by Central Luzon with 32 and the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa) region with 29, indicating a clear geographic focus.
A significant 226 projects worth P2.67 trillion are still in the project preparation stage, while 14 projects worth P113.59 billion are undergoing approval, and 10 projects worth P369.2 billion are in procurement, highlighting the complexities and challenges involved in bringing these projects to fruition.
The pipeline includes several mega-projects, such as the P678.83-billion North Long Haul (NCR-Ilocos Norte and Cagayan) Inter-Regional Railway Project, the P229.32-billion North-South Commuter Railway Operations and Maintenance PPP Project, and the P130.9-billion Metro Rail Transit Line 7 Airport Access-North Line Project, which are expected to have a transformative impact on the country's infrastructure landscape.
