McConnell discharged from hospital, still medically unfit to return

Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from the hospital following a fall at home in June, but remains in recovery and is not yet cleared to return to the Senate floor.

The senator’s office issued an update Monday, noting that he has been absent from the upper chamber and the public eye for more than a month.

According to the Office of the Attending Physician, McConnell continues to recover from the fall, with medical staff monitoring his progress daily.

Physicians conduct daily visits to discuss all aspects of his rehabilitation and to ensure a coordinated care plan.

His recovery program includes a rigorous schedule of physical therapy sessions, designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls.

The senator’s history of childhood polio remains a significant factor in his current mobility challenges.

Because of these ongoing medical considerations, he is not yet authorized to leave the rehabilitation facility or resume official duties.
