A 16-year-old boy from Brampton has been charged with second-degree murder after a man was killed in a fight outside a Tim Hortons in Oshawa on Saturday.
Durham Regional Police said officers responded around 8:10 p.m. to the area of Simcoe St. and Winchester Rd. after two groups of males got into a physical altercation outside of a Tim Hortons at 2700 Simcoe St.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old man with injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cops said the suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Hortons.
On Monday, the suspect surrendered himself to Durham police in Oshawa and was taken into custody.
The accused can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
This is believed to be an isolated incident.
This was Durham Region’s third homicide of 2026.

Markham sports coach up for sex assault faces additional charges
York Regional Police have charged a Markham sports coach with three counts of fail to comply with judicial release order in connection with sexual assault incidents involving youths.
In June 2025, members of the Special Victims Unit charged Garth Morris, 59, with invitation to sexual touching under 16, sexual interference, sexual assault and sexual exploitation relating to a victim incidents that began in 2017, when they were under the age of 16, and continued until 2021.
As a result of the initial appeal, more victims came forward with historical reports.
At the time of the offence, Morris was coaching youth basketball, tennis and volleyball in Markham and was released on conditions not to have contact with anyone under the age of 16 or attend schools, parks or community centres.
Investigators have since learned that Morris continued coaching youth while subject to those conditions and believe he has connections outside of Markham.
As a result of this new information, investigators are reissuing his photograph and renewing their appeal for anyone with additional information or similar experiences to come forward, regardless of when or where the incidents may have occurred.

Husband, wife charged with bank fraud in Peel
Peel cops have arrested and charged a husband and wife from Brampton following an investigation into a series of identity and bank fraud incidents in Mississauga and Brampton.
The investigation alleges the accused used fraudulent identification in the form of credit cards, Ontario drivers’ licences, immigration documents and birth certificates to open both personal and business bank accounts under false names.
In a separate incident, the husband is alleged to have impersonated a legitimate bank client to open new accounts, obtain debit cards, and withdraw funds from multiple bank branches before the fraud was detected.
His wife is alleged to have received funds transferred to her personal bank account from fraudulent accounts created by the male accused.
As a result of these incidents, financial losses exceeded $86,000 and all affected victims were reimbursed by the financial institutions.
On April 29, investigators executed a search warrant at a Brampton residence. Donato Pento, 43, was arrested and charged with two counts of identity fraud, three counts of fraud over $5,000, and one count each of uttering forged documents and fail to comply with a release order.
Some of the alleged offences occurred while Pento was already subject to court‑ordered conditions prohibiting him from possessing identification or banking documents that were not his own.
On May 6, Neuza Tavarez, 43, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime in connection with these alleged offences.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims that have not come forward yet.

2 tractor-trailer booze incidents in 2 days: OPP
The northwest region of the Ontario Provincial Police two alarming alcohol-related incidents involving tractor-trailers one day apart.
Cops said on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. a member of the Thunder Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer unit on Dawson Rd, for a designated truck route (DTR) offence.
The officer was conducting mandatory alcohol screening, and located numerous open vodka bottles in the cab, readily available to the driver.
The driver was ultimately charged with impaired operation, dangerous operation and failing to provide a breath sample, as well as having alcohol readily available, and disobeying the DTR signs.
His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the tractor was impounded for even days.
Shockingly, this is the second alcohol-related offence in two days, involving this same officer, on Dawson Rd.
On Wednesday, the officer stopped another tractor trailer unit, conducted mandatory alcohol screening, and the driver registered a WARN range suspension, and his licence was suspended for seven days.
The OPP called “both incredibly alarming incidents.”
Niagara Falls man, 71, charged in hate-speech probe
Niagara Regional Police’s investigation into hate speech being left on several properties in Niagara Falls has led to charges against a 71-year-old man.
Officers investigated 11 vandalization incidents in which hate speech had been spray painted onto buildings on Queen St., Bridge St., Erie Ave. and Zimmerman Ave.
As a result of the investigation, Pierre Vaillant, of Niagara Falls, was arrested on Friday and charged with mischief under $5,000.
