UMVA has learned that Newcastle United are prepared to part ways with striker Yoane Wissa this summer, a decision that seems long overdue.
The Magpies are reportedly eager to remove Wissa from their wage bill before pursuing a more significant attacking signing, one that could bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Newcastle are willing to let Wissa leave for around £15m, a substantial loss on their original investment, which was reportedly a significant outlay when they acquired him from Brentford in September 2025.
Wissa's move to Newcastle was a protracted one, with Brentford having previously rejected a £40m bid from the Magpies, before eventually agreeing to the transfer.
However, his time at Newcastle has not lived up to expectations, with Wissa managing just 1 goal and 1 assist in 19 Premier League appearances in the 2025/26 season, including only four starts.
This represents a huge drop-off from his form at Brentford, where he scored 19 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season and 45 league goals across his entire career with the club.
Newcastle's decision to sell Wissa makes sense, given their need for more firepower and a striker who can lead the line, following a disappointing campaign.
The sale of Anthony Gordon to another club for £70m has boosted Newcastle's budget, with much of that money expected to be reinvested into the squad, providing a significant transfer boost.
Selling Wissa would be a harsh but sensible decision, as he is not a bad player, but Newcastle bought him at the wrong time and probably at the wrong price, and at 29, he needs regular football.
