INVENTION REVOLUTION: Your Blueprint Could Win BIG!

INVENTION REVOLUTION: Your Blueprint Could Win BIG!

A challenge has been issued to the brightest young minds in the Philippines: the opportunity to transform innovative ideas into reality. The James Dyson Award for 2026 is now accepting entries, seeking solutions to pressing, real-world problems from the next generation of Filipino engineers and designers.

This isn’t just a competition; it’s a launchpad. University students and recent graduates with groundbreaking inventions stand to gain significant financial backing, with national winners receiving P398,280. The ultimate prize – a chance to impress Sir James Dyson himself – unlocks P2,390,230 and invaluable support to bring their creations to life.

Beyond the financial rewards, the Award offers something far more potent: visibility. Winners receive extensive media exposure and international recognition, providing the momentum needed to accelerate their ideas from concept to commercialization.

Sir James Dyson founded the Award with a specific purpose. He sought to champion those who actively *solve* problems, not simply discuss them. He’s witnessed two decades of brilliant ideas emerge, many blossoming into thriving businesses impacting lives globally, and eagerly anticipates this year’s submissions.

The scale of the competition is immense. Last year, the 20th anniversary of the Award drew over 2,100 inventions from young engineers worldwide, tackling issues ranging from healthcare to disaster relief and everyday waste.

The Philippines has a proud history within the Award, consistently producing national winners who deliver meaningful change. These inventions aren’t abstract concepts; they’re practical solutions addressing the unique needs of Filipino communities and classrooms.

Consider the Make-Roscope, a 2023 winner. Inventor Jeremy De Leon recognized a critical barrier to science education: the lack of affordable, accessible equipment. His ingenious device transforms a smartphone into a powerful microscope, opening up the microscopic world to students who previously lacked the opportunity to explore it.

More recently, John Carlo Reyes, a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman, developed SolAsin, the 2025 National Winner. This innovative salt farming unit addresses the challenges faced by small-scale salt farmers, using solar-powered evaporation to produce higher-quality, consistent flaky salt and improve livelihoods.

The deadline for submissions is midnight on July 15th. To be eligible, entrants must be university students or recent graduates in design or engineering, and their inventions must address a clear global problem with a thoughtful, original, and technically feasible design.
