Canada Announces Participation in 2027 Eurovision Song Contest

Canada Announces Participation in 2027 Eurovision Song Contest

Canada will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 after its broadcasting service gained full membership in the European Broadcasting Union.

CBC/Radio‑Canada secured that status last week, unlocking the right to enter the competition if it chooses to do so.

The contest will take place in Bulgaria next year, making Canada the third country outside Europe to participate, following Australia’s debut in 2015.

Marie‑Philippe Bouchard, president and CEO of CBC/Radio‑Canada, said the announcement would bring the world’s largest live music event to Canadian audiences and provide a platform for Canadian artists on a celebrated international stage.

Martin Green, director of the Eurovision Song Contest, welcomed the new member and highlighted Canada’s historic connection to the event through past performers, expressing enthusiasm for Canadian creativity in the 2027 contest.

Canada will first enter the semi‑finals, aiming to progress to the grand final. The method for selecting its entry will be announced later in the year.

Canadian performers have previously represented other nations: Céline Dion won for Switzerland in 1988, Annie Cotton finished third for Switzerland in 1993, Natasha St‑Pier placed fourth for France in 2001, and La Zarra represented France in 2023.

The contest enjoys a strong following in Canada, with the country ranking among the top three in the Rest of the World voting and many fans traveling to Vienna to attend the live shows.
