A late-night traffic stop in North York spiraled into a major investigation last week, culminating in a 32-year-old man facing a barrage of serious charges. The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. near Shoreham Drive and Court, a quiet residential area southeast of Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West.
Officers initiated the stop after observing the driver allegedly violating the terms of his existing release order. As the man was taken into custody, a search of the vehicle revealed a chilling discovery: a loaded handgun concealed within the car.
The arrest didn’t end with the vehicle search. Investigators from 31 Division’s Major Crime Unit quickly obtained and executed a search warrant at a nearby property, expanding the scope of the investigation.
That subsequent search yielded further evidence, including a fully loaded magazine and a significant quantity of ammunition. The discovery painted a troubling picture and solidified the gravity of the situation.
Denis Danso, a Toronto resident, now faces a lengthy list of charges. These include failure to comply with a release order, unlicensed possession of a firearm, and multiple counts related to the unsafe handling and unauthorized possession of both the weapon and ammunition.
The charges extend to possessing a prohibited firearm while in a vehicle and violating a prohibition order preventing him from possessing firearms altogether. The sheer number of accusations underscores the potential danger posed by the alleged offenses.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to come forward. Individuals can contact the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-3100 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
