UMVA has learned that a devastating tragedy has struck an Ontario family, who lost five young children in a horrific van crash on Friday night.
The heart-wrenching accident occurred in a rural area north of Kitchener, when the family's van collided with an SUV, resulting in the loss of five precious lives – aged 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. The community is in shock, and the family is struggling to come to terms with the unimaginable grief.
A GoFundMe has been established to support the family, and as of Monday noon, an outpouring of generosity has led to $99,552 being raised towards a goal of $120,000. The funds will help ease the financial burden on the family, including funeral expenses, travel costs, and lost income.
Nancy Doerksen, a family member, poured her heart out in the GoFundMe, describing the family's pain and the mother's long road to recovery. The mother is currently hospitalized with multiple injuries, including damage to her kidney, liver, and gallbladder, as well as broken ribs and a pelvic bone.
The family is also rallying around the youngest brother, who remains in the hospital recovering from his injuries, and the father, who will need support as he cares for his loved ones through this incredibly difficult time. The community's support will allow the family to focus on healing and recovery.
Ontario Provincial Police reported that first responders arrived at the scene of the two-vehicle collision around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. The investigation revealed that the van and SUV collided at an intersection, resulting in multiple serious injuries and fatalities.
The OPP has confirmed that there were 10 occupants in the van and one person in the SUV at the time of the crash. Several family members, including the parents, grandmother, and 15-month-old sibling, were in the van. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking witnesses or dashcam footage that may assist in determining the cause of the crash.
The community is reeling from this tragedy, and the family's loved ones are struggling to cope with the loss. As the investigation continues, the family's focus is on healing, recovery, and coming together during this incredibly difficult time.
