TRUMP TARGETED AGAIN: Is This War?

TRUMP TARGETED AGAIN: Is This War?

A near miss at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner – a bullet grazing the President’s ear – sparked an immediate response, yet the urgency seems to have faded with each subsequent attempt on his life.

Two years ago, a gunman’s attempt on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania triggered swift, bipartisan investigations into security failures. Lawmakers demanded answers and accountability, launching probes into the Secret Service and related agencies.

Months later, another incident at a Florida golf club, involving a suspect with a rifle, was absorbed into the existing investigation. The focus remained on identifying vulnerabilities and preventing future attacks.

This weekend’s attempt, however, has met with a markedly different reaction. While top lawmakers received briefings from the Secret Service Director, calls for formal hearings or large-scale investigations have been surprisingly muted.

The alleged shooter, Cole Allen, breached a security checkpoint armed with a rifle, handgun, and knives, but was neutralized before reaching the President. Despite this, some question the speed of the response.

Senator Josh Hawley voiced concern, stating this was the third attempt in two years and demanding a careful review of security procedures. He specifically requested a hearing by the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

That same committee previously investigated the Pennsylvania incident, concluding it was preventable due to failures in security protocol, planning, and funding. Their investigation yielded over 40 recommendations for improvement.

Senator Rand Paul, chair of the committee, expressed caution, noting the previous investigation took over a year. He indicated a willingness to review the Secret Service’s findings before committing to further action.

Representative Ralph Norman raised alarming questions about the escalating threat, wondering if the attempts might evolve into more coordinated and devastating attacks. He fears a future involving suicide bombers or larger-scale assaults.

Adding to the complexity, a wave of online skepticism has emerged, with some claiming the latest incident was fabricated. This has fueled further division and distrust.

Senator Bernie Moreno dismissed such claims, suggesting those spreading them require help. He expressed confidence in the White House Chief of Staff to lead a necessary conversation about the incident.

The contrast between the initial, robust response to the first attempt and the current, more subdued reaction raises questions about the evolving approach to presidential security and the political climate surrounding it.

The incident underscores the constant threat faced by the President and the ongoing challenge of ensuring his safety in an increasingly volatile world.
