UGANDA DECLARES WAR ON IRAN?! Israel's New, Unexpected Ally.

UGANDA DECLARES WAR ON IRAN?! Israel's New, Unexpected Ally.

A startling declaration has emerged from Uganda, raising the specter of expanded conflict in the Middle East. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the powerful son of President Yoweri Museveni and a likely future leader, has publicly pledged Uganda’s support for Israel, even hinting at military intervention.

Kainerugaba’s pronouncements, delivered through a series of viral posts on social media, were unequivocal. He stated bluntly that any attempt to destroy Israel would compel Uganda to enter the war on Israel’s side, framing the conflict in stark religious terms: “We stand with Israel because we are Christians.”

The general invoked a powerful biblical analogy, positioning Uganda as a modern-day David prepared to confront a formidable Goliath. This bold stance comes from a nation boasting a substantial military force – 45,000 active personnel and 35,000 reserves – equipped with tanks and armored vehicles.

Uganda is already deeply engaged in regional security efforts, deploying troops as part of an African Union force battling al-Shabab terrorists in Somalia and maintaining a presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo against Islamic State-linked groups. This existing commitment to counter-terrorism underscores the nation’s willingness to project military power.

While direct Iranian interests in Uganda are limited, concerns exist regarding Iran’s alleged covert activities in neighboring countries, including smuggling and questionable diplomatic overtures. Uganda, despite being landlocked, is acutely aware of Iran’s strategic ambitions to establish a foothold in the vital waterways of the Indian Ocean and Red Sea.

Kainerugaba’s support isn’t simply a matter of current events; it’s rooted in history. He emphasized Israel’s past support for Uganda during the 1980s and 90s, a period when Uganda felt internationally isolated. He pointedly asked, “Why wouldn't we defend her now that our GDP is $100 billion?”

The relationship between the two nations is built on a strong foundation of security cooperation. Israel has long provided military training to Ugandan forces, including Kainerugaba himself, fostering close intelligence ties that continue to this day.

This current stance represents a dramatic shift from a dark chapter in both nations’ histories. In 1976, under the brutal dictatorship of Idi Amin, Uganda became the unwilling stage for a daring and tragic hostage rescue operation.

Palestinian terrorists hijacked an Air France flight, diverting it to Entebbe Airport. Israeli commandos launched a daring raid – Operation Thunderbolt – to free the hostages, resulting in a fierce firefight that claimed the lives of hostages, hijackers, and Ugandan soldiers.

The operation was later renamed Operation Yonatan in memory of Lt. Col. Yonatan Netanyahu, the mission’s courageous leader and elder brother of the current Israeli Prime Minister, who was killed during the raid by a Ugandan sniper.

Now, Kainerugaba intends to honor Netanyahu’s sacrifice with a striking gesture of reconciliation. He announced plans to erect a statue of the fallen commando at the very spot in Entebbe Airport where he lost his life, sharing a preview image online.

This planned memorial serves as a powerful symbol of the evolving relationship between Uganda and Israel, and a clear signal of Uganda’s unwavering support as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
