Civil Aviation Authority Bars AirAsia's MOVE Service from Selling Tickets

Cebu Air, the operator of Cebu Pacific, announced that a Malaysian High Court has prohibited AirAsia MOVE, the online travel agency of the AirAsia group, from using the airline’s trademarks in any ticket distribution or sales activities without authorization.

The court in Kuala Lumpur determined that MOVE Travel Sdn. Bhd. was not authorized to employ the Cebu Pacific or CebGo marks when offering, distributing, or selling flight tickets for the carrier.

Legal action was initiated by Cebu Pacific in June 2024, alleging passing‑off and seeking an injunction to stop unauthorized use of its trademarks.

The ruling granted the injunction, barring MOVE from using the Cebu Pacific and CebGo trademarks and from marketing or selling the airline’s flights through its platform.

In addition, the court ordered MOVE to cover legal costs of 120,000 Malaysian ringgit, approximately 1.8 million Philippine pesos.

The judgment also awarded damages to Cebu Pacific, with the specific amount to be determined in subsequent proceedings.

Cebu Pacific reiterated its support for travel platforms and partners that use its trademarks, provided they obtain proper authorization from the airline.

AirAsia MOVE has not responded to a request for comment.
