Victim in Maine ICE Shooting Was Not Target of Outstanding Arrest Warrant, Clarify Authorities

The fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man by an ICE agent in Biddeford, Maine has sparked controversy and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to Sen. Angus King's office, the man was not the intended target of the arrest warrant federal agents were executing, contradicting earlier statements made by the senator himself.

In an interview with Fox News, King confirmed that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin had informed him that the victim was not the target of the warrant, correcting earlier information provided by the secretary.

King had initially stated that Mullin told him the man who was killed was the target of an immigration enforcement operation and had been ordered to leave the country.

An ICE spokesperson said that agents were conducting targeted surveillance on the last known address of an individual with a final order of removal, who then departed the residence in a vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.

The spokesperson added that the vehicle was "weaponized" and an officer discharged their weapon, striking the driver, who later passed away from his injuries.

Kingsaid the community has a right to demand answers and that the investigation should be transparent and thorough, with state and local officials involved.

Protesters rallied outside Sen. Susan Collins' office and entered the building, demanding answers and calling for an end to ICE operations in the state.

The Biddeford Police Department and FBI responded to the scene, and DHS OIG has been notified to investigate the incident.

The shooting has sparked outrage and calls for a full and impartial investigation, with the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition and Presente! Maine releasing a joint statement condemning the incident and demanding answers for the victim's family.

The incident has shed light on the complexities of immigration enforcement and the need for transparency and accountability in such cases.
