UMVA has learned that a 65-year-old man from Whitby has been accused of sexually exploiting a teenage girl, sparking concerns that there may be more victims. The alleged abuse occurred when the victim was employed by the man between July and October 2021.
The special victims unit concluded an investigation late last month, revealing that the man, identified as Ahmed Ashraf, had allegedly sexually assaulted and exploited a 16-year-old girl. Police have concerns that there may be other victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Ashraf has been charged with three counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation and was released on an undertaking. Authorities are now seeking information from the public to help determine if there are other victims of Ashraf's alleged crimes.
In a separate incident, a man was seriously injured in a shooting in Rexdale on Wednesday afternoon. Toronto Police reported that a victim in his 30s was found with gunshot wounds in the Humber College Blvd.-Westmore Dr. area around 4:20 p.m.
The police said a suspect was spotted fleeing in a dark vehicle and are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Toronto Police are also investigating separate collisions that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a pedestrian and a female cyclist with serious injuries. A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck at Kingston and Manse Rds. in Scarborough, while a cyclist was involved in a crash with a car in the Grace-Harbord Sts. area of Little Italy.
The pedestrian was sent to a hospital via an emergency run with serious injuries, while the cyclist, a female in her 20s, was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both incidents are under investigation, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
