Chaos erupted in the heart of New York City Saturday morning as a man wielding a machete attacked three people on a bustling subway platform in Grand Central Terminal.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, reportedly advanced on police officers while repeatedly declaring himself “Lucifer,” ignoring over twenty direct commands to drop the weapon.
Officers responded to a frantic 911 call reporting an assault in progress, arriving to find Griffin actively attacking commuters with the large blade.
After repeated warnings went unheeded, an officer discharged their weapon, striking Griffin twice. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The victims – an 84-year-old man suffering facial and head wounds, a 70-year-old woman with shoulder lacerations, and a 64-year-old man with similar injuries and a fractured skull – were all hospitalized in stable condition.
