UMVA has learned that a powerful weather system is poised to unleash torrential rains across several areas in the Philippines on Tuesday, putting communities on high alert for potential flooding and landslides.
The southwest monsoon is expected to bring rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro, with forecasters warning of a high risk of flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas, as well as regions near rivers.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the weather disturbance may also trigger landslides in vulnerable areas, prompting authorities to advise residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
As the system moves across the country, more areas are expected to be affected on Wednesday, including Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Pampanga, with similar conditions anticipated in Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
The situation is expected to persist on Thursday, with La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga bracing for impact, and residents in mountainous and elevated areas facing a higher risk of heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Jangmi, which had caused significant flooding incidents in parts of Mindanao, has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is no longer being monitored by forecasters, bringing an end to its direct effects on the country.
