Manchester United have made it clear that they are not planning to sell midfielder Mason Mount this summer, despite speculation linking him to a move to AC Milan.
The club's stance appears firm, with no indication that they are actively looking to move Mount on.
Mount is expected to remain at Old Trafford, and his time at the club has not gone as smoothly as many expected.
United paid an initial £55m for him in 2023, with the fee potentially rising to £60m, and although injuries have made it difficult for him to build rhythm, his ability to play as a No.8, No.10 or wide attacking midfielder could still be useful across a long season.
The Milan links have attracted attention, especially with his value now being discussed at a much lower figure than United originally paid.
However, selling Mount could prove to be risky, as it would feel like accepting a major loss before giving him a proper chance to prove himself.
He needs a big season, with staying fit, playing regularly and showing why United invested so heavily in him being key to his success.
Given the club's need for more midfield depth, keeping Mount is the smarter move, especially at a price of around £21.5m.
United might have a decision to make if Milan were to offer a much bigger fee, but for now, keeping him is the priority.
