UMVA has learned that a 36-year-old father from Washington state was taken into custody on Thursday, accused of a heinous crime that has left a community in shock. Jacob Bevins is alleged to have killed his 4-year-old son, Aiden, and buried the child's body underneath their family home.
The charges against Bevins include felony second-degree murder, felony first-degree manslaughter, unlawful disposal of remains, and making a false or misleading statement to a public servant. The investigation began on May 12, when police first made contact with Bevins after his 6-year-old daughter was reported missing.
Although the girl was found safe with her mother, authorities noticed that Aiden was nowhere to be found. Bevins initially told investigators that the 4-year-old was with family in another state, but relatives quickly denied this claim, raising suspicions about the child's whereabouts.
Under further questioning, Bevins cracked under the pressure and made a devastating confession. He admitted to striking Aiden on the head and killing him, although he later changed his story, claiming the child had fallen and hit his head while he was chasing him to the bathroom.
The gruesome truth was revealed on May 15, when remains belonging to Aiden were found inside a garbage bag underneath the house. The child's body had been hidden for almost a year, and the discovery has sent shockwaves through the community.
A neighbor, Tammy Pratt, described her horror upon hearing about the discovery. "My daughter said she saw dirt between the tree and the house," Pratt said. "I have grandkids that come here and play too. I won’t let them go back there." The proximity of the burial site to neighboring homes has raised concerns about the potential risks to local residents.
As investigators dug deeper, they uncovered a disturbing history of concerns about the children's health and safety. Both Aiden and his sister had previously been in the foster care system before being returned to their biological parents. Former foster parents Gary and Magali Lopez revealed that they had contacted Child Protective Services multiple times, citing worries about the children's well-being.
The autopsy report revealed that Aiden's injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma, which contradicted Bevins' revised account of the child's death. The evidence against Bevins appears to be mounting, and the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this tragic case.
