Nottingham Forest are reportedly leading contenders to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall this summer. Bergvall, a 20-year-old Sweden international, has expressed a desire to leave Tottenham, despite signing a contract extension until 2031 last year.
Forest's interest in Bergvall makes sense, as they are looking for a young, high-upside midfielder to fill the gap left by Elliot Anderson's expected move to Manchester City. Bergvall brings valuable experience, international pedigree, and technical ability to play in different midfield roles.
Chelsea and Aston Villa have previously enquired about Bergvall, but there are currently no active approaches from either club. This gives Forest a potential opening to secure Bergvall's signature.
Tottenham may be facing a difficult decision regarding Bergvall's future, as they are believed to want around £45m if they decide to sell. However, the problem lies in Bergvall's role under Roberto De Zerbi, and if he does not see a clear pathway to regular minutes, a move may suit all parties.
Forest could offer Bergvall a more central project and regular football, while Tottenham could raise funds for their own rebuild. Forest appear to be in a strong position, with Chelsea and Villa watching from the sidelines. Right now, the clearest route for Bergvall may be a move to the City Ground.
