Trevor Nelson, a 62-year-old award-winning BBC radio DJ, has announced that he is taking a break from work due to health issues. The R&B icon has been absent from his usual Radio 2 slot this week and has now explained that he will be extending the break to focus on his health.
According to Nelson's social media post, he was advised to have follow-up tests after a routine check-up and will be taking further time off. He reassured his fans and listeners that he is concentrating on getting better and returning to his duties as a radio DJ and music presenter.
Nelson's fans and colleagues have sent their love and support to the broadcaster, with many flooding the comments section of his post with messages of encouragement. Fellow BBC Radio DJ Melvin Odoom wrote "Sending love and positive vibes Trev," while Stormzy and Alesha Dixon sent three love hearts. Romesh Ranganathan referred to Nelson as a "love legend," and Jools Holland wished him a speedy recovery.
The BBC Radio 2 family has also sent their well-wishes to Nelson, with the director of music, Lorna Clarke, stating that everyone at the BBC wishes him a very speedy recovery and looks forward to his return to his shows whenever he is ready. Nelson recently won the Judge's Special Recognition Award at the ARIAs, the industry's yearly awards.
