A night of terror unfolded in Brixton, south London, as emergency services responded to a shooting and a near-fatal stabbing within an hour of each other.
Shortly after 1:00 AM on Saturday, a 25-year-old man was fighting for his life in hospital after gunfire erupted from a passing car on Coldharbour Lane. The attack left three others injured – a 21-year-old, a 47-year-old, and a 70-year-old – though their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Just 300 metres away, and only an hour later, police discovered a 33-year-old man in Acre Lane suffering from multiple stab wounds. His condition is critical, and he remains hospitalised.
Investigators are urgently exploring a potential link between the two violent incidents, though no arrests have been made at this time. A thorough search of the area, including the grass outside the Southwyck House estate, was conducted on Saturday evening.
Eyewitness accounts paint a picture of a community gathering shattered by violence. One resident described a “packed” barbecue party, attended by families and children, when the shooting occurred.
Moh John, a local supermarket worker, recounted the chaos. He locked his shop doors after hearing the shots and witnessing people fleeing in panic, some desperately seeking refuge inside his store.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo addressed the community, acknowledging their fear and assuring them that officers are working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators. He described the shooting as an act of “indiscriminate violence.”
The investigation hinges on public assistance. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information, or who witnessed either incident, to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.
