A 24‑year‑old woman was found at the scene and pronounced dead. A man in his twenties was discovered nearby with stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Officers quickly located a 44‑year‑old male matching the suspect description. He sustained injuries believed to have been caused after jumping from a window and was also transported to hospital.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a knife in a public place. The arrest follows the coordinated police operation at the scene.
A local resident, a mother of two, described hearing shouting and a tapping on her bedroom window shortly before the incident, followed by the sound of a helicopter overhead. She expressed distress over the proximity of the violence to her family’s home.
The area's Member of Parliament called the event a terrible tragedy for the community and extended sympathy to the victims' families.
Detective Chief Inspector stated the incident was shocking and confirmed that specialist officers are providing support to the victims and their relatives. He added that there is no indication of a broader public threat, but police presence will remain heightened in the area for the coming days.
Police erected a temporary tent near the location to facilitate the investigation and manage on‑site activities.
