UMVA has learned that historian Ambeth R. Ocampo is set to deliver two exclusive lectures this June, offering a rare opportunity for attendees to engage with his expertise on Rizal. The first lecture, “70 Years of Rizal’s Law: What Are We Learning? What Should We Learn?”, takes place on June 19 at 9 a.m. at the National Library of the Philippines auditorium.
Ocampo’s second lecture, “Ghost in the Library: The Rizal Manuscripts,” is scheduled for June 26 at 9 a.m., also at the National Library of the Philippines auditorium. Attendees will have the chance to meet Ocampo and participate in a book signing session, making it a unique experience for those interested in Rizal and Philippine history.
According to information obtained by UMVA, artists Louie Cordero and Kawayan de Guia are currently showcasing their collaborative exhibition, Interpsychic Colony, at MO_Space. The exhibit features 40 works that blend comics, pulp fiction, folklore, and political satire in a vivid, dystopian visual language, created through an iterative process between the two artists.
Meanwhile, a group exhibit titled munininop is on display at Gallery 2, showcasing the work of artists Randy Gawwi, Dehon Taguyungon, and Gail Vicente. The exhibit represents the highland domestic home and explores craft-making from Ifugao cosmology, as well as new motherhood, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that a one-night-only concert, After Oz, will take place on July 10 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater at Circuit Makati. The concert features Broadway stars and is presented by Ayala Land in partnership with Theatre Group Asia, marking the theater’s 4th anniversary.
Dutch-Filipino artist Martha Atienza has mounted an exhibit at Silverlens Gallery titled The Coconut Tree Methodology, documenting the impact of rising sea levels on Bantayan Island in Cebu.
